CLUB HISTORY CLUB HISTORY. Our club was formed as a charitable section of the Victoria & Elm Youth Club in September 1969 by Mr. Alan Ferrary. When the club was formed, the mat area was a mere 12 x 18 feet and included six senior members. Since its inception the club has grown. We now have the luxury of BJA qualified instructors and the largest purpose built Judo mat in the area. During the history of our club which spans more than four decades, V&E Judokwai is proud to have nurtured and coached countless judo players, many of whom have competed for the country at national level.  In our club’s recent history, there have been many improvements to the facility, overseen and implemented by the current club chairman and head Sensei Steve Hill. Renovation of our male and female changing rooms and shower facilities. Installing new Tatami (Judo mats) on a state-of-the-art purpose built sprung substrate. Improvements to the club core structure, including upgrading Sensei training to meet with current BJA legislation and ensuring all our Sensei are ‘first aid’ trained. Improvements to the office environment including a member record administration system to cope with the growing number of members attending the club.  All these modifications have been implemented to make the experience of learning and practicing Judo in our Dojo fun, whilst still maintaining a safe environment.  Because of these ongoing improvements, V&E Judokwai is now able to aim towards securing BJA CLUBMARK status. This will enable the club to develop even further and offer more facilities to its members.
